Background:
Post 256 started this award in 1967. James Knapp was Post Commander in 1938-39 when the Post was located in the Red Jacket building on the comer of Main Street and Gorham Street, Canandaigua. He was a member of the original Drum & Bugle Corp for the Post. He was very active in the Post for many years serving on various committees.
Amount of Award - $1,000
This one year award will be paid out in two equal installments. The first will be awarded upon submission of proof of admission to an accredited college/university. The second installment will be paid out at the completion of the first semester, confirmed by submitting the grade report.
Qualifications:
1. The applicant must be a student at Canandaigua Academy during the entire senior year.
2. The applicant must have been admitted to any type of post-high school training or schooling.
3. The applicant must have earned at least a "B" (83% and above) average in American History.
4. The applicant must have taken an active part in good citizenship building activities, such as Boy's/Girl's State, Boy Scouts, Girl Scouts, school or church organizations, etc.
5. The applicant must be one who will find this award of real assistance to his/her further education or training.
